Meanwhile, Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 2.02% or 34.50 points to end at 1738.00 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) was up 2.00% or 2.62 points to 133.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which fell 3.70% or 192.00 points to trade at 4996.00 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 3.63% or 10.10 points to end at 268.20 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was down 2.40% or 6.40 points to 259.90.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1045 to 1043 and 315 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.07% or 0.95 to $1286.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $56.62 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.10 to trade at $65.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.09% to 1.3174, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8583.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 96.760.
