Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.77% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 7.61% or 67.20 points to trade at 950.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 2.00% or 5.00 points to end at 254.80 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was up 1.33% or 19.00 points to 1450.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which fell 5.02% or 11.40 points to trade at 215.50 at the close. DCC plc (LON:DCC) declined 4.76% or 345.0 points to end at 6905.0 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was down 4.51% or 78.80 points to 1670.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1279 to 721 and 323 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) rose to 3-years highs; up 2.00% or 5.00 to 254.80.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.19% or 28.70 to $1279.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.17% or 2.12 to hit $64.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.37% or 2.56 to trade at $73.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.3280, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8740.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 94.79.
