Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.50% or 86.60 points to trade at 1661.60 at the close. Meanwhile, WPP PLC (LON:WPP) added 4.84% or 39.00 points to end at 844.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 4.71% or 34.80 points to 774.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which fell 1.90% or 4.35 points to trade at 224.85 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 1.62% or 114.00 points to end at 6906.00 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was down 1.06% or 0.56 points to 52.33.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1293 to 747 and 306 ended unchanged.
Shares in Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) fell to 5-year lows; down 1.90% or 4.35 to 224.85. Shares in Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.06% or 0.56 to 52.33.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1249.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.24% or 0.63 to hit $51.63 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.34 to trade at $60.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.2523, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.9032.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 97.453.
