Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Food & Drug Retailers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.22%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which rose 2.28% or 4.600 points to trade at 206.700 at the close. Meanwhile, Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 1.55% or 15.00 points to end at 979.50 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 0.90% or 1.55 points to 174.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which fell 4.42% or 57.00 points to trade at 1233.00 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 3.92% or 164.00 points to end at 4020.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) was down 3.70% or 7.40 points to 192.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1610 to 534 and 450 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.38% or 5.15 to $1336.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.67% or 1.27 to hit $46.35 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.00% or 1.50 to trade at $48.49 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.3260, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8453.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.46% at 95.48.
