Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, General Retailers and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.71% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 1.46% or 23.00 points to trade at 1600.00 at the close. Meanwhile, HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 0.88% or 6.00 points to end at 686.70 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 0.64% or 1.60 points to 251.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 7.26% or 122.00 points to trade at 1558.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 6.73% or 163.00 points to end at 2259.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was down 6.14% or 264.00 points to 4037.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1566 to 414 and 392 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.57% or 20.08 to $1255.82 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.54% or 0.24 to hit $44.49 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.10 to trade at $46.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.2749, while EUR/GBP fell 0.68% to 0.8740.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.62% at 97.51.
