Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Electrical and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 2.71% or 15.50 points to trade at 588.50 at the close. Meanwhile, British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 2.13% or 98.50 points to end at 4732.83 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 2.10% or 62.00 points to 3015.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which fell 5.41% or 24.30 points to trade at 425.10 at the close. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) declined 3.80% or 23.50 points to end at 595.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was down 3.39% or 49.00 points to 1398.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 991 to 885 and 423 ended unchanged.
Shares in London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) rose to all time highs; up 2.10% or 62.00 to 3015.00.
Gold for February delivery was down 1.08% or 13.05 to $1199.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.55% or 0.28 to hit $51.36 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.28 to trade at $54.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.2313, while EUR/GBP fell 0.51% to 0.8627.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 101.46.
