Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which rose 19.95% or 54.60 points to trade at 328.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) added 15.97% or 13.7300 points to end at 99.6800 and Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) was up 14.56% or 54.70 points to 430.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AstraZeneca PLC (L:AZN), which fell 6.10% or 269.00 points to trade at 4143.00 at the close. Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (L:IMT) declined 3.49% or 130.00 points to end at 3598.50 and Johnson Matthey PLC (L:JMAT) was down 2.66% or 64.00 points to 2343.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1287 to 837 and 439 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was up 1.03% or 11.80 to $1153.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.51% or 0.17 to hit $32.12 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.10% or 0.39 to trade at $34.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.22% to 1.4570, while EUR/GBP rose 0.95% to 0.7679.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.63% at 96.64.
