Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.92% or 41.10 points to trade at 876.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 4.90% or 22.700 points to end at 486.200 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 4.41% or 45.50 points to 1078.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which fell 1.08% or 55.00 points to trade at 5040.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 0.79% or 38.50 points to end at 4850.50 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was down 0.76% or 7.50 points to 981.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1457 to 694 and 464 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1343.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.89% or 0.42 to hit $47.83 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.54 to trade at $49.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.3184, while EUR/GBP fell 0.45% to 0.8580.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 94.46.
