Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Aerospace & Defense sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.77% or 43.00 points to trade at 1595.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.46% or 114.00 points to end at 4752.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.45% or 78.00 points to 3264.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which fell 2.86% or 6.80 points to trade at 230.90 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 2.75% or 19.50 points to end at 691.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was down 2.38% or 62.00 points to 2539.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1009 to 986 and 409 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.26% or 3.25 to $1257.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.73% or 0.87 to hit $51.11 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.03% or 1.08 to trade at $54.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.2431, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8577.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 100.50.
