Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.24% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.84% or 47.50 points to trade at 1285.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 3.60% or 12.40 points to end at 357.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 2.24% or 8.700 points to 396.400 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which fell 4.53% or 54.00 points to trade at 1137.73 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.49% or 50.00 points to end at 1383.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was down 3.11% or 150.50 points to 4684.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1063 to 879 and 394 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.84% or 47.50 to 1285.00.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.23% or 2.75 to $1182.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.29% or 1.67 to hit $52.49 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.34% or 1.79 to trade at $55.43 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.2131, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8651.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.46% at 102.48.
