Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Financial Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 3.80% or 6.35 points to trade at 173.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 3.49% or 81.00 points to end at 2402.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 2.74% or 15.50 points to 582.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG), which fell 8.82% or 36.00 points to trade at 372.00 at the close. Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) declined 1.74% or 3.40 points to end at 191.80 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was down 1.33% or 2.75 points to 204.20.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1081 to 832 and 416 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 3.38 to $1222.58 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.70% or 1.74 to hit $45.33 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.14% or 1.56 to trade at $48.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2923, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8769.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 96.11.
