Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Software & Computer Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 2.96% or 77.00 points to trade at 2676.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.60% or 100.00 points to end at 3942.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 2.13% or 4.2000 points to 201.6500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which fell 10.52% or 44.600 points to trade at 379.200 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.79% or 28.00 points to end at 975.00 and Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) was down 2.49% or 9.200 points to 360.100.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1090 to 1000 and 443 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tui AG (LON:TUIT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.79% or 28.00 to 975.00.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.32% or 4.00 to $1248.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.26% or 0.11 to hit $41.41 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.23 to trade at $41.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.15% to 1.4206, while EUR/GBP rose 0.88% to 0.7893.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 95.67.
