Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.60%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Denso Corp. (T:6902), which rose 5.25% or 256.0 points to trade at 5133.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toyota Tsusho Corp. (T:8015) added 4.68% or 155.0 points to end at 3465.0 and Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413) was up 3.38% or 44.0 points to 1344.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which fell 13.46% or 36.1 points to trade at 232.2 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T:8035) declined 7.15% or 1210.0 points to end at 15705.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) was down 6.34% or 500.0 points to 7385.1.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2029 to 1178 and 254 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.04% to 12.48.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.04% or 0.02 to $49.02 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.41% or 0.21 to hit $51.70 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.01% or 0.07 to trade at $1259.93 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.07% to 111.17, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 130.13.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 93.60.
