Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Steel and Glass sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which rose 4.09% or 107.0 points to trade at 2721.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Rakuten Inc (T:4755) added 3.52% or 41.5 points to end at 1221.5 and Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) was up 3.51% or 86.0 points to 2533.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983), which fell 6.74% or 2870.0 points to trade at 39720.0 at the close. Yamaha Motor Co Ltd (T:7272) declined 3.73% or 98.0 points to end at 2530.0 and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T:5802) was down 3.17% or 54.0 points to 1650.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1645 to 1385 and 337 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.51% or 86.0 to 2533.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.63% to 19.96.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.22% or 0.12 to $53.64 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.25% or 0.14 to hit $56.75 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.55% or 6.45 to trade at $1174.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.73% to 116.20, while EUR/JPY rose 0.47% to 122.91.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.36% at 101.75.
