Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT), which rose 3.36% or 31.15 points to trade at 957.25 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC) added 1.84% or 52.70 points to end at 2914.70 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NSE:TCS) was up 1.68% or 42.80 points to 2592.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were GAIL Ltd (NSE:GAIL), which fell 3.21% or 13.25 points to trade at 399.50 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) declined 3.06% or 5.75 points to end at 182.15 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was down 2.64% or 4.75 points to 174.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 1.66% to 2594.05, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.55% to settle at 137.65 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.51% to close at 1006.10.
The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 3.04% to 399.95 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 2.70% to settle at 174.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.32% to 417.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 860 to 567 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 440 fell and 303 advanced, while 4 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.07% to 15.7600.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.15% or 1.70 to $1173.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.31% or 0.18 to hit $59.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $63.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 63.615, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 71.2490.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 95.34.
