Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Auto and Metals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 2.01%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 2.03%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 0.40% or 3.40 points to trade at 843.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 0.38% or 3.40 points to end at 890.40 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) was up 0.32% or 0.45 points to 139.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which fell 6.72% or 16.30 points to trade at 226.25 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) declined 5.51% or 13.15 points to end at 225.60 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 5.32% or 10.35 points to 184.35.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which fell 0.07% to 1103.40, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.33% to settle at 2462.65 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.43% to close at 868.25.

The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 5.45% to 225.50 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 5.38% to settle at 184.50 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 5.24% to 85.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1038 to 377 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 627 fell and 193 advanced, while 18 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.18% to 17.8300.

Gold for June delivery was up 1.12% or 13.60 to $1232.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.42% or 0.15 to hit $35.55 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.19 to trade at $37.50 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.59% to 66.505, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 75.5070.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 94.75.
