Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Banking and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.23%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI), which rose 2.16% or 7.350 points to trade at 348.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 2.02% or 2.45 points to end at 123.50 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 1.73% or 3.70 points to 217.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW), which fell 2.33% or 1.75 points to trade at 73.30 at the close. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 2.30% or 17.00 points to end at 721.30 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) was down 1.72% or 3.55 points to 203.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which rose 1.78% to 123.25, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 1.68% to settle at 217.40 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 0.92% to close at 1363.20.
The worst performers were Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was down 2.33% to 73.40 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 2.03% to settle at 125.50 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 1.69% to 121.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 746 to 680 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 826 fell and 763 advanced, while 60 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.02% or 2.45 to 123.50. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.78% or 2.15 to 123.25.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.47% to 17.2600.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.75% or 9.75 to $1282.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.94% or 0.47 to hit $49.49 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.51 to trade at $50.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 67.540, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 76.5780.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 93.53.
