Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls (NS:INBF), which rose 4.22% or 47.00 points to trade at 1160.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 4.10% or 55.85 points to end at 1416.95 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 2.77% or 113.10 points to 4195.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which fell 1.92% or 19.15 points to trade at 977.05 at the close. Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) declined 1.92% or 5.15 points to end at 262.55 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) was down 1.70% or 1.40 points to 81.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.99% to 1416.35, Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was up 2.75% to settle at 1161.20 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 2.62% to close at 415.65.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.96% to 976.95 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which lost 1.42% to settle at 263.30 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.36% to 501.40 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 889 to 671 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1352 rose and 1253 declined, while 164 ended unchanged.
Shares in Indiabulls (NS:INBF) rose to all time highs; up 4.22% or 47.00 to 1160.60. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) fell to 3-years lows; falling 1.36% or 6.90 to 501.40.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.02% to 11.7625.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.30 to $1264.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.99% or 0.99 to hit $48.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 1.08 to trade at $51.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 64.515, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 72.3295.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 97.07.
