Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.36%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 3.20% or 18.05 points to trade at 582.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 2.57% or 408.00 points to end at 16273.45 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 1.99% or 27.50 points to 1410.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which fell 6.72% or 209.05 points to trade at 2902.00 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 6.01% or 185.25 points to end at 2897.00 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 5.29% or 9.65 points to 172.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 2.54% to 16265.25, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 2.36% to settle at 1415.75 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.45% to close at 616.25.
The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 6.05% to 2896.75 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 4.53% to settle at 596.75 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 3.97% to 2028.70 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1099 to 519 and 90 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1619 fell and 975 advanced, while 171 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.60% to 22.8325.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1905.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.93% or 0.77 to hit $39.08 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 0.68 to trade at $41.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 74.000, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 87.4570.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 92.963.
