Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Real Estate and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 0.44%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.60%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bajaj Auto Limited (NSE:BAJA), which rose 4.67% or 111.70 points to trade at 2504.30 at the close. Meanwhile, GAIL Ltd (NSE:GAIL) added 3.38% or 13.50 points to end at 412.75 and Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) was up 3.27% or 5.95 points to 187.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which fell 2.84% or 15.50 points to trade at 529.80 at the close. Wipro Ltd. (NSE:WIPR) declined 2.34% or 13.25 points to end at 552.15 and Cipla Ltd. (NSE:CIPL) was down 1.77% or 11.00 points to 610.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which rose 4.65% to 2506.25, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 3.44% to settle at 412.50 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which gained 3.28% to close at 1806.90.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.03% to 553.80 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.28% to settle at 883.85 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.27% to 313.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 731 to 688 and 17 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 369 rose and 364 declined, while 3 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 0.09% to 15.9300.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1172.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.53% or 0.32 to hit $59.95 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $63.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 63.605, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 71.1930.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 95.48.
