Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.56% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB), which rose 5.82% or 94.10 points to trade at 1711.95 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 2.44% or 37.70 points to end at 1580.20 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 2.40% or 13.60 points to 579.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which fell 2.95% or 16.10 points to trade at 528.85 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 1.49% or 8.05 points to end at 530.65 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was down 1.40% or 16.10 points to 1134.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.22% to 565.40, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.08% to settle at 578.45 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.07% to close at 310.20.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.90% to 528.85 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 1.43% to settle at 1135.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.62% to 2554.80 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 791 to 777 and 4 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1314 rose and 1298 declined, while 160 ended unchanged.
Shares in Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) rose to all time highs; up 5.82% or 94.10 to 1711.95. Shares in ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.07% or 6.30 to 310.20.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.36% to 11.1700.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.35% or 4.34 to $1247.76 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.63% or 0.30 to hit $48.19 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.20 to trade at $50.40 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 64.355, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 74.9560.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 93.92.
