Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.72%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.90% or 16.35 points to trade at 435.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.61% or 14.50 points to end at 416.00 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was up 2.15% or 8.55 points to 408.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which fell 2.56% or 5.40 points to trade at 205.60 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 1.39% or 111.05 points to end at 7867.15 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 1.48% or 8.70 points to 578.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 3.78% to 416.40, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 3.46% to settle at 433.60 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 2.72% to close at 1147.45.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.16% to 206.10 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.06% to settle at 7888.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.04% to 384.60 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 819 to 756 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1342 rose and 1274 declined, while 108 ended unchanged.
Shares in GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) rose to all time highs; up 3.90% or 16.35 to 435.40. Shares in Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.46% or 14.50 to 433.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.20% to 12.4600.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.61 to $1274.41 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $50.51 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.07 to trade at $56.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 65.494, while EUR/INR rose 0.43% to 76.9549.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 93.42.
