Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.22%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.15%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 6.08% or 81.40 points to trade at 1,420.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 3.78% or 104.75 points to end at 2,876.00 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 3.63% or 19.90 points to 568.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 8.33% or 87.15 points to trade at 959.50 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 1.72% or 10.65 points to end at 608.00 and Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:SHMF) was down 1.67% or 39.05 points to 2,305.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 3.69% to 2,875.00, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.58% to settle at 1,530.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.38% to close at 1,457.40.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.18% to 351.50 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.12% to settle at 1,288.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.10% to 3,255.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1301 to 911 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2125 fell and 1676 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 11.52% to 20.60 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.20% or 28.60 to $2,346.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.42% or 0.33 to hit $78.59 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.27 to trade at $83.06 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 83.50, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 90.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 105.14.
