Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.84% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 9.30% or 0.400 points to trade at 4.700 at the close. Meanwhile, Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) added 6.36% or 1.490 points to end at 24.910 and Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAAS) was up 4.44% or 1.02 points to 23.99 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM), which fell 7.59% or 0.75 points to trade at 9.13 at the close. Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) declined 6.09% or 0.450 points to end at 6.940 and Methanex Corporation (TO:MX) was down 5.85% or 3.61 points to 58.14.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 790 to 382 and 135 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.99% to 12.52.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.86% or 10.65 to $1244.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.35% or 0.66 to hit $48.25 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 0.64 to trade at $50.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7489, while CAD/EUR fell 0.70% to 0.6926.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 99.53.
