Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Telecoms and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 7.89% or 0.91 points to trade at 12.44 at the close. Meanwhile, Primero Mining Corp (TO:P) added 7.86% or 0.220 points to end at 3.020 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was up 6.45% or 3.19 points to 52.62 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which fell 8.58% or 0.57 points to trade at 6.07 at the close. Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) declined 6.84% or 0.26 points to end at 3.54 and Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) was down 4.05% or 0.03 points to 0.71.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 776 to 545 and 167 ended unchanged.
Shares in Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.05% or 0.03 to 0.71.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.34% to 25.02.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.23% or 2.50 to $1106.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.53% or 1.16 to hit $44.76 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.60% or 0.78 to trade at $48.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7542, while CAD/EUR fell 0.52% to 0.6654.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 95.18.
