Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE), which rose 6.52% or 1.04 points to trade at 16.99 at the close. Meanwhile, Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) added 5.07% or 0.27 points to end at 5.60 and Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) was up 4.15% or 0.240 points to 6.020 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which fell 7.07% or 0.28 points to trade at 3.62 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 6.23% or 0.22 points to end at 3.31 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was down 4.98% or 0.74 points to 14.11.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 595 to 508 and 141 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.07% or 0.28 to 3.62. Shares in Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.23% or 0.22 to 3.31.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 29.41% to 15.49 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.57 to $1267.83 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.48% or 0.22 to hit $46.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.11 to trade at $48.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.05% to 0.7504, while CAD/EUR rose 0.96% to 0.6697.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.15.
