Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES), which rose 6.05% or 0.65 points to trade at 11.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) added 5.82% or 0.26 points to end at 4.73 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 5.41% or 0.400 points to 7.790 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb), which fell 4.97% or 1.91 points to trade at 36.53 at the close. Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) declined 4.69% or 0.210 points to end at 4.270 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) was down 4.16% or 1.34 points to 30.84.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 600 to 580 and 125 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.00% to 11.89.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.61% or 19.25 to $1215.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.29% or 0.15 to hit $52.52 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.36 to trade at $55.50 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.99% to 0.7665, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.7160.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.18% at 100.33.
