Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrials, Energy and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.05%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 6.51% or 1.00 points to trade at 16.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) added 4.35% or 0.72 points to end at 17.26 and Atco Ltd (TO:ACOx) was up 4.05% or 1.42 points to 36.47 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which fell 6.73% or 0.140 points to trade at 1.940 at the close. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) declined 6.64% or 0.32 points to end at 4.50 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was down 6.11% or 0.240 points to 3.690.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 747 to 357 and 117 ended unchanged.
Shares in Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.73% or 0.140 to 1.940.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.03% to 17.10.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.14% or 1.70 to $1229.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.52% or 1.06 to hit $68.69 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.70 to trade at $79.35 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.40% to 0.7648, while CAD/EUR fell 0.04% to 0.6674.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 95.69.
