Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Staples, Industrials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI), which rose 6.53% or 0.25 points to trade at 4.08 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 5.08% or 0.51 points to end at 10.54 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) was up 4.99% or 0.59 points to 12.41 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which fell 5.78% or 1.12 points to trade at 18.25 at the close. Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) declined 4.35% or 0.130 points to end at 2.860 and Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE) was down 4.04% or 0.57 points to 13.53.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 542 to 539 and 114 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.80% to 13.19.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.98% or 12.20 to $1253.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.30% or 0.22 to hit $74.16 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.42 to trade at $77.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7610, while CAD/EUR rose 0.17% to 0.6525.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 94.31.
