Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cronos Group Inc (TO:CRON), which rose 9.49% or 2.4600 points to trade at 28.3900 at the close. Meanwhile, Brookfield Property Partners LP (TO:BPY_u) added 6.27% or 1.55 points to end at 26.29 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 4.85% or 0.100 points to 2.160 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA), which fell 7.64% or 0.310 points to trade at 3.750 at the close. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TO:WCP) declined 7.17% or 0.33 points to end at 4.27 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was down 6.92% or 0.20 points to 2.69.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 680 to 385 and 138 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.19% to 15.54.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.05% or 0.65 to $1313.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.59% or 1.40 to hit $52.61 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.69% or 1.06 to trade at $61.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.67% to 0.7517, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6626.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 96.347.
