Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.18% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were DH Corp (TO:DH), which rose 11.00% or 1.60 points to trade at 16.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Whitecap Resources Inc . (TO:WCP) added 7.95% or 0.87 points to end at 11.82 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was up 7.35% or 0.74 points to 10.81 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which fell 5.65% or 0.160 points to trade at 2.670 at the close. Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) declined 3.66% or 3.27 points to end at 86.12 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was down 3.61% or 0.070 points to 1.870.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 811 to 382 and 120 ended unchanged.
Shares in Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.35% or 0.74 to 10.81.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.43% to 14.47.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.38% or 4.65 to $1213.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.10% or 1.90 to hit $48.26 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 4.46% or 2.09 to trade at $48.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.68% to 0.7454, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.7012.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.46% at 100.94.
