Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.78%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc. (TO:DOO), which rose 12.69% or 4.17 points to trade at 37.03 at the close. Meanwhile, Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) added 11.57% or 0.99 points to end at 9.55 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was up 7.98% or 1.14 points to 15.42 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG), which fell 7.76% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.020 at the close. Saputo Inc . (TO:SAP) declined 3.84% or 1.73 points to end at 43.37 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) was down 3.05% or 0.320 points to 10.180.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 614 to 493 and 147 ended unchanged.
Shares in BRP Inc. (TO:DOO) rose to all time highs; rising 12.69% or 4.17 to 37.03. Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.98% or 1.14 to 15.42.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.27% to 12.37.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.46% or 5.84 to $1266.16 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.50% or 0.24 to hit $48.08 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.38 to trade at $50.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.19% to 0.7393, while CAD/EUR rose 0.09% to 0.6593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 97.16.
