Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 11.13% or 1.100 points to trade at 10.980 at the close. Meanwhile, NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA) added 5.07% or 0.290 points to end at 6.010 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was up 4.81% or 0.34 points to 7.41 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW), which fell 6.63% or 2.63 points to trade at 37.06 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) declined 4.07% or 0.38 points to end at 8.95 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was down 2.35% or 0.110 points to 4.580.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 629 to 555 and 124 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.99% to 11.31 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.44% or 5.50 to $1254.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.40% or 0.19 to hit $47.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $50.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7473, while CAD/EUR fell 0.64% to 0.6879.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 99.02.
