Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb), which rose 5.50% or 1.60 points to trade at 30.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) added 4.96% or 0.70 points to end at 14.82 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 4.51% or 0.240 points to 5.560 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC), which fell 8.05% or 0.87 points to trade at 9.94 at the close. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX) declined 4.70% or 0.69 points to end at 14.00 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was down 4.41% or 0.470 points to 10.180.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 588 to 574 and 119 ended unchanged.
Shares in Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX) fell to 5-year lows; losing 4.70% or 0.69 to 14.00.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.25% to 12.28.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 3.45 to $1254.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.73% or 0.37 to hit $50.23 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.43 to trade at $53.10 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.43% to 0.7475, while CAD/EUR fell 0.60% to 0.7005.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 100.36.
