Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, REITs and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.12% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE), which rose 9.86% or 2.52 points to trade at 28.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI) added 7.27% or 4.00 points to end at 58.99 and Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TO:CTCa) was up 6.88% or 9.94 points to 154.51 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which fell 7.42% or 0.190 points to trade at 2.370 at the close. Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) declined 5.25% or 1.54 points to end at 27.78 and Sun Life Financial Inc. (TO:SLF) was down 5.09% or 2.68 points to 49.94.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 643 to 538 and 127 ended unchanged.
Shares in Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.27% or 4.00 to 58.99. Shares in Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TO:CTCa) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.88% or 9.94 to 154.51.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 20.81% to 8.94.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.62% or 7.60 to $1240.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $53.43 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7648, while CAD/EUR fell 0.61% to 0.7167.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 100.45.
