Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Financials and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.01%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Capstone Mining Corp. (TO:CS), which rose 7.43% or 0.110 points to trade at 1.590 at the close. Meanwhile, Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. (TO:AEM) added 5.93% or 2.16 points to end at 38.57 and Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TO:TXG) was up 5.45% or 0.060 points to 1.160 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were RMP Energy Inc. (TO:RMP), which fell 5.01% or 0.170 points to trade at 3.220 at the close. Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR) declined 4.55% or 4.00 points to end at 84.00 and Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF) was down 3.80% or 0.15 points to 3.92.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 759 to 699 and 185 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.99% to 13.06.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.68% or 8.20 to $1211.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $57.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.23% or 0.15 to trade at $64.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.48% to 0.8312, while CAD/EUR fell 0.36% to 0.7570.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.74% at 96.18.
