Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrials, Healthcare and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.19%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Manulife Financial Corporation (TO:MFC), which rose 5.84% or 1.16 points to trade at 21.02 at the close. Meanwhile, Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO:GOOS) added 5.75% or 3.63 points to end at 66.81 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was up 5.68% or 0.63 points to 11.73 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY), which fell 47.06% or 1.440 points to trade at 1.620 at the close. AltaGas Ltd (TO:ALA) declined 16.16% or 3.21 points to end at 16.66 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) was down 6.07% or 0.190 points to 2.940.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 643 to 520 and 92 ended unchanged.
Shares in Guyana Goldfields Inc. (TO:GUY) fell to 3-years lows; falling 47.06% or 1.440 to 1.620. Shares in AltaGas Ltd (TO:ALA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 16.16% or 3.21 to 16.66. Shares in Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.07% or 0.190 to 2.940.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.48% to 19.98.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.58% or 7.10 to $1225.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.27% or 0.85 to hit $66.19 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.69% or 1.31 to trade at $76.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7622, while CAD/EUR rose 0.34% to 0.6718.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 96.76.
