Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 5.65% or 0.46 points to trade at 8.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) added 5.39% or 0.230 points to end at 4.500 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 3.85% or 0.28 points to 7.56 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which fell 6.49% or 0.75 points to trade at 10.80 at the close. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TSX:WFT) declined 5.98% or 3.58 points to end at 56.28 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was down 5.55% or 0.37 points to 6.30.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 514 to 507 and 146 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.65% or 0.46 to 8.60.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.64% to 10.32.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.35 to $1399.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.23% or 0.71 to hit $58.37 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $64.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7615, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6795.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.093.
