Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 4.82% or 0.190 points to trade at 4.130 at the close. Meanwhile, Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG) added 3.96% or 0.38 points to end at 9.98 and Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) was up 3.29% or 0.67 points to 21.06 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which fell 6.59% or 0.280 points to trade at 3.970 at the close. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) declined 4.88% or 0.63 points to end at 12.29 and Goldcorp Inc. (TO:G) was down 4.39% or 0.84 points to 18.29.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 695 to 466 and 115 ended unchanged.
Shares in Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.88% or 0.63 to 12.29.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.55% to 12.47 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.66% or 8.80 to $1328.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $63.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.13 to trade at $69.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.14% to 0.8051, while CAD/EUR rose 0.52% to 0.6593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 90.50.
