Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Ambev SA (SA:ABEV3), which rose 1.39% or 0.26 points to trade at 19.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) added 1.36% or 0.700 points to end at 52.250 and Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3) was up 1.09% or 0.75 points to 69.67 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which fell 11.73% or 3.25 points to trade at 24.45 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 8.49% or 1.31 points to end at 14.12 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was down 8.37% or 0.18 points to 1.97.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 185 to 100 and 19 ended unchanged.
Shares in Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) rose to all time highs; up 1.36% or 0.700 to 52.250.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 7.32% to 52.19.
Gold for April delivery was down 2.27% or 28.40 to $1220.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.05% or 1.68 to hit $39.77 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 2.69% or 3.62 to trade at $131.05 .
USD/BRL was up 0.01% to 3.6831, while EUR/BRL rose 0.00% to 4.1182.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.41% at 96.06.
