Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 2.19% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which rose 3.21% or 0.23 points to trade at 7.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 1.55% or 0.22 points to end at 14.45 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) was up 1.49% or 0.26 points to 17.71 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE5), which fell 6.33% or 1.54 points to trade at 22.79 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 6.13% or 1.70 points to end at 26.05 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was down 5.88% or 0.63 points to 10.09.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 249 to 129 and 30 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.96% to 35.45 a new 1-month low.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.30% or 3.45 to $1140.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.13% or 0.07 to hit $53.02 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.34% or 1.91 to trade at $144.23 .
USD/BRL was down 0.80% to 3.3649, while EUR/BRL fell 1.26% to 3.5004.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 103.08.
