Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.86%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which rose 1.41% or 0.38 points to trade at 27.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) added 1.02% or 0.20 points to end at 19.55 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was up 0.71% or 0.04 points to 5.64 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4), which fell 5.16% or 0.40 points to trade at 7.35 at the close. Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) declined 4.82% or 0.30 points to end at 5.93 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was down 4.32% or 0.24 points to 5.32.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 228 to 66 and 3 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.16% or 0.40 to 7.35.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.51% to 30.83.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.46% or 5.40 to $1178.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.36% or 1.41 to hit $58.23 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.67% or 0.90 to trade at $132.45 .
USD/BRL was down 0.26% to 3.1216, while EUR/BRL rose 0.40% to 3.5084.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.55% at 95.08.
