Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumption, Real Estate and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.80% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 2.86% or 0.38 points to trade at 13.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) added 2.41% or 0.40 points to end at 17.00 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 1.17% or 0.37 points to 32.09 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 7.01% or 0.34 points to trade at 4.51 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) declined 6.87% or 0.90 points to end at 12.20 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) was down 6.80% or 1.05 points to 14.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 212 to 113 and 28 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.21% to 38.86.
Gold for February delivery was down 1.12% or 12.95 to $1146.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.93% or 2.08 to hit $50.90 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.05% or 1.50 to trade at $144.18 .
USD/BRL was up 1.03% to 3.3701, while EUR/BRL rose 0.15% to 3.5493.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.93% at 102.02.
