Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 1.97% or 1.18 points to trade at 61.08 at the close. Meanwhile, Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3) added 1.49% or 0.60 points to end at 40.87 and Hypermarcas SA (SA:HYPE3) was up 1.40% or 0.39 points to 28.27 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4), which fell 5.43% or 0.78 points to trade at 13.59 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) declined 4.33% or 0.88 points to end at 19.42 and CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) was down 4.09% or 0.47 points to 11.01.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 213 to 123 and 34 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.99% to 31.30.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.44% or 5.35 to $1197.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.33% or 0.16 to hit $48.24 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.81% or 1.16 to trade at $141.27 .
USD/BRL was up 0.72% to 3.1752, while EUR/BRL rose 0.23% to 3.3659.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 101.65.
