Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 3.90% or 0.98 points to trade at 26.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 2.38% or 0.29 points to end at 12.46 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 2.13% or 0.39 points to 18.73 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 6.00% or 0.39 points to trade at 6.11 at the close. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 5.76% or 0.75 points to end at 12.27 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was down 5.35% or 0.85 points to 15.03.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 239 to 103 and 31 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.07% to 32.95.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.58% or 7.05 to $1209.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 5.33% or 2.83 to hit $50.31 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.64% or 0.90 to trade at $141.52 .
USD/BRL was up 1.48% to 3.1656, while EUR/BRL rose 1.28% to 3.3388.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.07.
