Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 3.24% or 0.45 points to trade at 14.34 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 3.12% or 0.19 points to end at 6.28 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) was up 2.11% or 0.81 points to 39.22 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which fell 4.72% or 0.62 points to trade at 12.51 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 4.34% or 0.52 points to end at 11.46 and JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) was down 3.11% or 0.36 points to 11.23.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 191 to 188 and 29 ended unchanged.
Shares in MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.24% or 0.45 to 14.34. Shares in Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.12% or 0.19 to 6.28.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.66% to 32.66.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1226.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $53.23 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 1.22% or 1.75 to trade at $141.48 .
USD/BRL was up 0.57% to 3.1339, while EUR/BRL rose 0.22% to 3.3176.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 101.66.
