Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 2.23% or 0.34 points to trade at 15.57 at the close. Meanwhile, EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA:ENBR3) added 2.12% or 0.29 points to end at 13.99 and Banco Santander Brasil SA Unit (SA:SANB11) was up 1.84% or 0.51 points to 28.19 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which fell 5.15% or 0.50 points to trade at 9.20 at the close. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 3.25% or 0.36 points to end at 10.70 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was down 2.73% or 0.14 points to 4.98.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 167 to 167 and 40 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.53% to 31.53.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.92% or 11.50 to $1242.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.80% or 0.89 to hit $50.40 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.12% or 0.16 to trade at $139.23 .
USD/BRL was up 0.88% to 3.1473, while EUR/BRL rose 0.08% to 3.3615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 100.41.
