Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gold, Energy and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.94%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were AWE Ltd (ASX:AWE), which rose 16.13% or 0.100 points to trade at 0.720 at the close. Meanwhile, Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN) added 9.57% or 0.400 points to end at 4.580 and Drillsearch Energy Ltd (ASX:DLS) was up 7.07% or 0.035 points to 0.530 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kathmandu Holdings Ltd (ASX:KMD), which fell 5.76% or 0.080 points to trade at 1.310 at the close. Bluescope Steel Ltd (ASX:BSL) declined 4.49% or 0.190 points to end at 4.040 and Pacific Brands Ltd (ASX:PBG) was down 4.23% or 0.030 points to 0.680.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 587 to 357 and 145 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.32% to 24.858.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.50 to $1119.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $47.16 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.14 to trade at $49.89 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.18% to 0.7185, while AUD/JPY rose 0.06% to 86.81.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 95.43.
