Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (AX:LNG), which rose 13.10% or 0.095 points to trade at 0.820 at the close. Meanwhile, Western Areas Ltd (AX:WSA) added 6.37% or 0.130 points to end at 2.170 and Santos Ltd (AX:STO) was up 3.60% or 0.160 points to 4.600 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Greencross Ltd (AX:GXL), which fell 8.08% or 0.645 points to trade at 7.335 at the close. Estia Health Ltd (AX:EHE) declined 5.59% or 0.295 points to end at 4.985 and Sky Network Television Ltd. (AX:SKT) was down 3.25% or 0.140 points to 4.170.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 518 to 496 and 339 ended unchanged.
Shares in Estia Health Ltd (AX:EHE) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.59% or 0.295 to 4.985.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.46% to 16.769.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.22% or 2.70 to $1244.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.07 to trade at $50.48 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.81% to 0.7426, while AUD/JPY rose 0.91% to 79.94.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 94.00.
