Joe Biden launches 2024 re-election campaign

Investing.com -- U.S. president Joe Biden has formally announced that he will stand for re-election in 2024.

In a promotional video released on Tuesday, Biden stressed his desire to protect the "personal freedom" of American citizens.

"Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours," Biden said in a statement.

Biden reiterated a central message made during the 2020 presidential campaign, claiming that the U.S. is facing "a battle for the soul" of the country.

The announcement, which had been hinted at previously by Biden, ends a period of speculation around whether the 80-year old would seek a second term in office.

Do Americans want an eighty (80) year old Neurosurgeon operating on them? I think not!  Then why would we want an eighty (80) year old as our leader making crucial decisions? Normal growth and development, including aging and a slowing-down & diminishing process, is part of life.  This is the main reason for retirement ages, which was once age 65.  Why have we allowed our politicians and judges to serve far beyond what we allow in our public sector?
So, wait. When Republicans talk about raising the retirement age they want to increase incompetence in the workforce? (Check your premises, deary. You are wrong on the facts and your assumptions. )

I remember casting the same aspersions at Ronald Regan when he ran for a second term. Interestingly, he was at the same approval rating in the polls then as Biden is now. In retrospect, America chose the right man for the times and the frailties of age were not an impediment to his success -- As it shall be for Biden. Those who don't like that thought can continue to howl in the wind or get to work helping Republicans nominate a younger alternative who can capture the independent center. Trump is not it.
